After getting engaged, Oklahoma City speech pathologist Amber Epperson knew she needed to love her smile for her wedding day and beyond. Growing up, she was never comfortable with her smile, and felt she couldn’t smile as big as she wanted when she was happy. Invisalign clear aligner treatment gave her the confidence and freedom to smile as big as her heart desires for her wedding day, the birth of their first child and many more happy events these past few years.
Recently, we caught up with Amber to hear how her new smile has impacted her life, how she feels about the new school year and how her family has coped during the COVID-19 pandemic.
OA: Hi Amber! How have you been? What you’ve been up to?
Amber: Hi! Good! I have been married to my husband Keith for five years, and we have an 18-month-old son. I am entering my tenth year as a speech-language pathologist at Putnam City Schools. We enjoy traveling (especially to Disney World!), singing, crafting, and spending time with family and friends.
Tell us about your experience with Orthodontic Associates
Being an adult and seeking orthodontic treatment, I didn’t know what to expect. However, from the moment I walked into my first consultation, the staff at Orthodontics Associates was so warm and welcoming. Dr. Power (and all of the orthodontists that I saw there) really took the time to explain the process, listen to my concerns and answer all my questions. I loved the collaborative approach they took in planning and implementing my treatment plan. I was able to proceed with treatment knowing that a team of orthodontists had developed the best plan to suit my needs and to ultimately give me the smile I was looking for.
How did you feel about your smile before treatment?
Before treatment, I wasn’t comfortable with my smile. I felt like I couldn’t smile as big as I wanted or wear bolder lipstick shades that made me happy, because it would draw more attention to my mouth. Having just gotten engaged and starting to plan my wedding, I knew that I didn’t want to hide my smile or my joy any longer.
How has your new smile impacted your life?
My new smile has made such a positive impact on my life! I was able to feel beautiful on my wedding day. More importantly, I now feel free to smile and laugh as big as my heart desires without a second thought. I am not only comfortable in my smile, but I have the confidence to wear it proudly every day for others to see. Smiles are contagious after all. And bright red lipstick is now my favorite!
What fun things have you enjoyed with your family while staying home more this year due to COVID-19? How have you stayed positive during this time?
We have enjoyed spending more time outdoors, like going for walks, swimming, having picnics and just hanging out in the backyard. We have also enjoyed cooking at home more and trying out some new recipes. We stay positive by staying in touch with our family and friends, whether it is through FaceTime or a porch visit. I think it has been so good for us to stay close to those we love even when we cannot physically be together. We also focus on spending time with our son. He is a little ray of sunshine (most days!) and makes all the bad days better!
As a teacher, what are your thoughts on this unique school year, and what encouragement can you provide for kids and parents?
Teachers, students and parents will all be learning together this year. It is not an ideal situation for any of us, but no matter what, know that teachers will do all that we can to make this a positive learning experience for our students. Do not hesitate to reach out to us when you need help or if you just need to see a friendly face. We will support you however we can, and we will get through this challenging time together! Also – keep reading!
