I took one look at my new headshot for work and couldn’t take my eyes off my crooked teeth.
I never had braces as a kid, but in my adult years, I occasionally thought about doing something to straighten my teeth. Instead, I settled for years, until I got my new headshot.
When I made my appointment with Orthodontic Associates, I didn’t know what to expect. I knew nothing about the rules or how long I’d need treatment. I just went in ready to take on whatever I needed to do.
The day I started my Invisalign treatment, the clear aligners felt really weird at first. It was a bit uncomfortable, there was some soreness, and I knew that taking them out to eat and drink was going to take some getting used to.
Before long, I got used to wearing the aligners and to the new routine of brushing my teeth and trays three times a day.
One thing I wasn’t sure about was how my clear aligners would impact my job. I anchor KOKH Fox 25 News for four hours every day and was a bit worried that my speech might be affected. There was a bit of a lisp at first, but that was short lived after my mouth got used to it.
The hardest part for me honestly was the coffee. I love coffee. It’s almost required when you wake up at 2:30 am every day, and have to be alert and energetic on the news for four hours. I decided to space out my coffee strategically and drink it faster than I should so that I can wear the Invisalign trays as much as possible. The more hours a day that I wear them, the quicker I will get to a straighter smile.
Comparing pictures over the last few months, I’ve noticed a big change in my smile. It’s hard to see when you look at it day to day, but overtime the shift can be dramatic.
I’m about six months into my Invisalign journey and already nearing the home stretch. I have to say, it’s been a fairly smooth process. I look forward to having a confident smile AND being able to casually enjoy a cup of coffee again.
