Monique Dodd and her three children have happy, healthy Orthodontic Associates’ smiles. Their lives have been changed by their new smiles, and we are blessed to know them. Monique recently shared more about their orthodontic experience with us, and the advice she has for other families!
OA: Hi Monique! Tell us a little about your family.
My husband, three children and I have lived in Oklahoma our whole lives. We enjoy going to the lake in the summer, skiing in the winter, and anything fun in between.
Why did you decide to get treatment for your kids?
I wanted my children to not only have a beautiful smile, but also healthy gums, jaws and bones. It is more important than you may think, and we wanted to start them off right in the “adult word” with a healthy smile.
What did you like most about coming here?
Orthodontic Associates is a very family, teen and adult-friendly atmosphere, all rolled into one. My youngest with special needs is always treated with kindness and respect while giving her the space she needs to follow instructions and comply with her appointments.
What has your experience been like at Orthodontic Associates?
Our son, 29, our daughter, 21, and I, 55, have all received orthodontic treatment from Orthodontic Associates. Our youngest daughter, 17, is currently a patient. My two oldest children had braces with Orthodontic Associates due to overcrowding and loved their experience. OA worked alongside their dentist to achieve a perfectly aligned smile.
A couple of years ago, my jaws and neck were hurting regularly. My jaw was popping, and I was grinding my teeth regularly to the point of chipping my lower front teeth. I am a local business owner who works in customer services daily, and I wanted to represent well to the community. Orthodontic Associates treated me with Invisalign clear aligners, and after a short treatment plan, I no longer have those issues!
My youngest daughter is low verbal and has Down syndrome. She has missing teeth, which is common with her diagnosis. She even has baby teeth that will not dissolve their roots and must remain in place as long as possible for her life. Her case has been a long process of monitoring each stage of development with appointments including x-rays, scans and photos. This helps us know when to act on her changes and treat at the right time. She will hopefully begin her final stages of orthodontic treatment soon, and we plan to also use Invisalign aligners for her needs.
How do you see that their new smiles have impacted their life?
They have all giggled and laughed at the changes they see from their “before and after” smile photos. Even for myself, I see positive changes I didn’t notice cosmetically from the Invisalign treatment.
All of our children are very well-rounded individuals. During treatment, I saw them smile and laugh more with a big, huge grin! They each have said that others compliment on how beautiful their smiles are. Of course, this is a confidence and self-esteem builder for them.
What would you say to others considering orthodontic treatment for themselves or their child?
Please go to an orthodontist. If possible, we should always go to those who have spent extra time in their education to “specialize” in what we are needing. The extra training an orthodontist goes into is more than just general dentistry. Even if some say, “Oh, I can do that for you.” It doesn’t mean they should. Remember, when we have a choice, we all get what we pay for. I wanted excellence, and that is what I got!
