It’s no joke that kids grow fast. At the same time, their adult teeth are growing in quickly too! The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children be seen by an orthodontist starting at age 7. At Orthodontic Associates, we see kids starting at this age (and sometimes even younger) for free growth and development appointments to track their tooth growth until it might be time to get braces or Invisalign.

(Please remember, you do not need a referral from your dentist to make an appointment with us. You can call us anytime for a free consultation!)

If your child is older than 7 years old, below are several ways to know for sure if it’s time to see an orthodontist and possibly get braces:

1. Crowding Between Teeth

Crowded teeth in any part of the mouth calls for a visit to the orthodontist. Crowding can make it difficult for a toothbrush to reach every crevice of your child’s teeth to make sure they are healthy and clean!

2. Difficulty with Eating Certain Foods

When a child’s teeth do not come together properly when closed, this can sometimes cause problems with eating certain foods. You might notice your child having a hard time biting into foods, like sandwiches, salads, cookies, etc., with their front teeth.

3. Speech Problems

You might notice that your child has a hard time saying certain words and consonants, or develop a lisp if their teeth are not growing in properly.

4. Social Issues

If you notice that your child is shy to smile while showing their teeth or smile for pictures, they might be self conscious about their teeth.

We would be happy to see your children for their free consultation at either our Oklahoma City office, west Edmond, OK office or east Edmond, OK office.
