As a child, teen or adult who is in orthodontic treatment, whether you are in braces or Invisalign, going to the Oklahoma State Fair can be difficult. There are so many yummy foods, smells and treats that you want to snack on for hours on end. But, some foods must be avoided. So, how do you deal with it?
For patients wearing braces, the following foods should be avoided:
- caramel apples
- corn on the cob
- salt water taffy
- excessive soda
- anything hard and sticky
Yes, these foods are yummy, but they may harm your braces and the health of your teeth. These foods will be waiting for you next year – we promise!
If you wear Invisalign aligners, you can essentially enjoy all of the fair food. But you must take a few precautions first:
- Please make sure that you bring a case or a secure place to keep your Invisalign aligners.
- Don’t wrap your aligners up in a paper towel as they may accidentally get thrown away.
- And if it’s hot outside, do not leave your trays in your car – this may ruin them.
- The good news is that all patients can enjoy the Indian tacos, funnel cakes, pizza on a stick, chicken on a stick, turkey legs, deep fried Oreos or bacon, and corn dogs.
